Wayne Thiebaud Inspired Cupcakes

Second Grade students were introduced to the artwork of Wayne Thiebaud, an artist known for painting desserts. Each student created their own delicious cupcake with cut or torn paper. They painted patterns on the cupcake wrapper, and finished it off with a cherry on top!

Illustrated Alphabet

First Grade students brainstormed words that started with each letter of the Spanish Alphabet. They were each assigned a letter and then illustrated that letter. After all, artists are readers too!

 

 

Line Paintings

Kindergarten students practiced proper painting techniques while painting different kinds of lines. Then they painted between the lines with colors in rainbow order. 

 

Big Mouth Animals

4th grade students created big mouth animals from clay. They used the score and slip method to attach the clay together.

 

 

Kente Cloth Weavings

First Graders learned about a special fabric called Kente cloth that comes from Ghana, Africa.

Students looked at patterns common to Kente cloth and learned that this cloth is worn for special occasions. Using paper weaving techniques, students created their own version of Kente cloth.

Kindergarten Self-Portraits

At the beginning of the year, kindergartners drew quick self-portraits, just using pencil and crayon. They just finished studying self-portraits and then drew and painted themselves again. Look how much they've grown!

 

Action Painting

5th grade students studied Jackson Pollack and abstract expressionism. They compared this style to pop-art which they just finished studying. Students were able to create these action paintings by dipping a marble in paint and then rolling it around on a tray.
