Underground Drawings

Students discussed what sort of animals and insects create tunnels and chambers underground. They looked at different books that illustrate the tunnels underground. Then students created their own unique and inventive tunnels and chambers, complete with beds, kitchens, even chambers with disco balls for dance parties!

 

 

Self-Portrait Comparisons

Kindergarten students drew self-portraits at the beginning of the school year and drew and painted self-portraits again at the end of the school year. Look at how these artists have grown!

 

Starry Night Paintings

Kindergarten artists were introduced to the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh, one of the most famous artists of all time. They discovered that he was one of the inventors of impressionism. Van Gogh like the lines his paint brush would make in thick paint, and he painted this way in most of his artwork. They looked at his most famous painting, "Starry Night", and painted their  own version of starry night, by using short brushstrokes, just like Van Gogh.

Blue Dog

Third Grade students studied artist George Rodrigue, who lived in New Orleans, Louisiana. Rodrigue is famous for his paintings of “Blue Dog.” Students discovered that Rodrigue’s “Blue Dog” isn’t always blue. Sometimes Rodrigue paints his dog different colors with different backgrounds to symbolize the emotions and events in the United States.

Students drew and painted their own version of Blue Dog, complete with a story explaining the setting of their painting.
