What is art?

Students started out the school year by discussing what art is and isn't. We read the book "Art Is..." by Bob Raczka. Students wrote down what they believe art is and isn't on a sticky note. Here are some of their ideas:
Art Is...
-pattern and form
-beautiful, ugly, different opinions.
-majestic
-everywhere and everything.
-If we didn't have it, we wouldn't have half of the things we have now.

Art Isn't...
-dirt
-nothing! Because everything is art.
-scribbling
-lame
-pain
